Things aren't as bad as this yet in my locale in Australia but we are definitely moving in this direction sadly.
It really makes you wonder how dark they can possibly make things. In many ways, the Orwellian model at least presented “hope in the proles” (though the lesson in that book definitely demolishes that idea).
